MULBERRY SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
ACCEPTABLE USE of THE INTERNET POLICY: SAFETY RULES FOR PUPILS
It is important that our students are fully aware of the safety rules and procedures which regulate their use of our ICT resources, including INTERNET. At Mulberry we encourage and allow all students access to our curriculum network and the Internet enabling them to use vast resources and communicate in support of research and education.
We insist that these facilities are used for educational purposes and in an appropriate manner. Users are responsible for their behaviour and communication. Any breach of the rules will be considered a disciplinary matter.
Ø Access to the networked resources is your privilege. You are encouraged to make use of the INTERNET in support of your studies in all subjects.
Ø Make sure you are supervised when you use the Internet at school or at home.
Ø Do not access, create or display any material (images, sounds, text, and video) which is likely to cause offence, inconvenience or anxiety to yourself and others.
Ø Follow your teacher's instructions carefully.
Ø You must have permission from your parents/guardians before you can use the Internet for your own independent research at school.
Ø Always work with your friend when you are browsing the Web. Ask "Is it true?" Do not assume that information published on the Web or written in an e-mail is accurate or true.
Ø Keep your username and password private. Do not tell anyone.
Ø When you use e-mail only write to 'net pals' or mentors approved by your teacher in school.
Ø Be careful what you write. Check your work before you print or send anything. DO NOT USE BAD LANGUAGE. DO NOT WRITE RACIST, SEXIST, ABUSIVE OR AGGRESSIVE WORDS. Do not write things that could upset and offend others. You could give yourself and the school a bad name.
Ø Do not ever give personal information about yourself and anyone else, such as your address, telephone number and private details in an e-mail or on a Website. You could put yourself or others in danger.
Ø Do not respond to bad e-mail messages. Let your teachers know immediately if you are sent anything you do not feel comfortable with.
Ø Be a wise net surfer. Do not go to sites or download any materials, which are offensive, violent and pornographic.
Ø Always respect the privacy of other users' files.
Ø REPORT any incident that breaches the Acceptable Use Policy rules immediately to your teacher.
