The aims of the Department are for all pupils irrespective of age, level or ability. They reinforce and are complementary to the aims of the school as stated in the Staff Handbook. There is a common core of knowledge, skills and understanding that are developed in the learning of any language. There are however, significant differences between learning a completely new, foreign language and developing further literacy and oracy skills in a home or community language. These points are reflected in the formulation of the Department's aims in terms of those that are common to French/Spanish and Bengali.
