AS Unit 1: People and Politics
This unit involves the study of politics by looking at the central ideas of citizenship, democracy and participation, and by examining the representative processes in the UK.
 
AS Unit 2: Governing in the UK
An introduction to the major political institutions of UK government, their relationship with one another and consideration of their effectiveness.
 
AS Unit 3: The Changing UK Political System
This unit examines key issues affecting the development of the UK system and considers the impact and desirability of political and constitutional change.
 

 

Assessment:

AS Unit 1: People and Politics
- 1 hour exam.
AS Unit 2: Governing in the UK - 1 hour exam.
AS Unit 3: The Changing UK Political System - 1 hour exam.
 
A2 Unit 4: Political Ideologies - Introducing political ideologies, liberalism, conservatism and marxism, communism and socialism.

A2 Unit 5: Ideological Traditions - An examination of the ideological traditions that have developed out of or have emerged in opposition to liberalism, conservatism and socialism, including nationalism, anarchism, fascism, and feminism.

A2 Unit 6: Ideological Development in the UK - The unit highlights the relationship between ideological belief and practical politics in the UK in recent years, including liberalism and civil liberties, conservatism and Thatcherism, socialism and the third way.
 
Assessment:
A2 Unit 4: Political Ideologies - 1 hour 15 mins exam.
A2 Unit 5: Ideological Traditions - 1 hour 15 mins exam.
A2 Unit 6: Ideological Development in the UK - 1 hour 30 mins exam.
