 Strength for the Tsunami

Mulberry has been making a fantastic effort in contributing to the Tsunami Appeal over the past few weeks.  Beginning with simple bucket collecting and going on to year activities and even individual efforts, Mulberry school as a whole has aided admirably to the Tsunami crisis.

Buckets:  In January 2005, several 6th formers gave up their mornings and lunch times to collect loose change from members of Mulberry school over a period of two weeks.  People gave extremely generous amounts of money and it was a great success as the bucket collecting managed to raise £850.   A big thank you goes to all the contributors and the collectors.

Non-uniform day:  On the 21st of January 2005, the dreaded day after Eid, for a change was a surprisingly good day for raising money for the tsunami appeal. Students from years 7-11 were asked to pay £1 to wear their own clothes and teachers were permitted to wear casual clothes. It was a great day all around for raising money as well as for pupils being able to continue their Eid celebrations with their friends by wearing their special clothes.

Internet café:  Other fundraising activities included a lunchtime internet café set up by the year 10 ICT Groups, which has run every lunchtime from the 31st January - 4th February in ICT rooms T21, T23 and DT14 offering internet access to pupils for a small donation of 50 pence. It has been very successful so far.  Perhaps it may return in the near future...Total collected £73.09, well done year 10.

As you already know, that ever since the new term has started, we as a whole school have been constantly raising money everyday for the Tsunami Appeal.  One way   was by holding a sponsored silence.  Two sixth formers; Roujee Begum 12A and Apia Begum 12J managed to keep SILENT for a WHOLE DAY!!

This was the hardest thing I had ever done, because for those who know me, I am not one to keep my mouth shut for 5 minutes let alone one whole day at school.

We got many sponsors for this special activity especially from teachers who were eager to sponsor us; the two load mouths of the year!!  This was all for a good cause and I am very pleased to announce that we raised approximately  £300 for the Tsunami Appeal.

Please contribute any amount you want to the Tsunami Appeal.  People in south east Asia need your money to survive, and keep their children healthy and safe.  Thank you to everyone who has been helping to raise money for the Tsunami appeal, and who are still doing their bit for this disaster.

Apia Begum 12J

Watch out for more activities held in aid of the Tsunami appeal...
