Careers Education & Guidance is very important to the overall progress of every girl at Mulberry. It takes place in your daughter's tutor group from Year 7 onwards. Pupils will also receive advice from the Careers teacher and are entitled to use the Careers Room at lunchtime.
In Year 11 your daughter will have an individual interview or group session to discuss her future after the age of 16. Year 11 students also spend two weeks in the work place on a work experience placement. This is invaluable and rewarding as it introduces girls to a commercial environment and helps them develop qualities such as self-confidence and self-reliance.
Two Careers Officers from the borough's Futures Careers and Guidance Agency have a base at the school. You and/or your daughter can arrange to see them at a time convenient to you.
Mulberry School has links with a large number of organisations through the local Education Business Partnership. They all provide activities that encourage the development of work-related skills and motivate students to gain further qualifications. The school also enjoys a special relationship with Bank of America. Its employees are involved in a wide range of activities at Mulberry and visits to the Bank's offices by students are commonplace. A business mentoring programme is in place for Years 10 and 11 together with extra reading support in the lower school.
Every girl at Mulberry completes a National Record of Achievement (NRA) folder. This is presented formally to her at the end of Year 11. It contains a statement from the school, one from herself, qualifications and details about her achievements. It is added to in Year 12 and provides a valuable document for use at interview for work, college or university places.
